contemporary art glass
The tablo vessel was inspired by Piet Mondrian (1872-1944), who was a member of the Dutch De Stijl movement from its beginning in 1917. In keeping with the De Stijl practice, Mondrain’s series of paintings, titled Tableau, were comprised of off-white grounds divided by black horizontal and vertical lines, framing blocks of solid colors. The tablo vessel was created by fusing dozens of handmade glass tiles into a cylinder and then blowing the fused glass into shape. The texture on the inside of the vessel is the result of the fusing process, which allows passing light to bend and distort the pattern, highlighting the interior space that exists only in the perception of the viewer.
