contemporary art glass
The overdrive vase is created by fusing a mosaic of glass strips and tiles into one solid sheet. This solid sheet of glass is then attached to a blowpipe and worked into a vessel shape. While the vessel is still hot, Jeff pulls sections of the glass to create the distinct points. These points create surface distortions that bend passing light, allowing various interpretations of the original pattern. This effect, and title of the piece, were inspired by techniques of overdrive and distortion, pioneered by rocker Jimi Hendrix, who created a new way of interpreting music.
